Prince Yadav bowled Virat Kohli for a two-ball duck in Lucknow Super Giants’ nine-run win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and afterwards Kohli was seen sharing a laugh with the young bowler.
Marsh century sets the target
The match was cut to 19 overs a side by rain. Lucknow made 209/3, built on a superb century from Mitchell Marsh, with captain Rishabh Pant and Nicholas Pooran also adding useful runs.
The dismissal
RCB lost Jacob Bethell to Mohammed Shami in the first over. In the next, Prince sent down an outswinger and then a sharp nip-backer at 140.4 kph that squeezed between Kohli’s bat and pad and hit the off-stump. It was Kohli’s first IPL duck since 2023.
The 24-year-old finished with 3/33, also removing Devdutt Padikkal and Jitesh Sharma. In a video shared by the IPL, he said Kohli had told him after an earlier game to keep hitting that off-length area while the ball was moving.
Close finish and Purple Cap race
Lucknow won by nine runs after Digvesh Singh Rathi defended 20 in the final over.
After the game Kohli was seen chatting with Prince and Bharat Arun near the boundary, and he rested a hand on the bowler’s shoulder, apparently acknowledging the delivery.
Prince remains in the Purple Cap hunt with 16 wickets in 10 matches at an economy of 8.08. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Anshul Kamboj lead with 17 each.
