Player SpotlightShai Hope Credits MS Dhoni’s Advice for Unbeaten 162 Against India
West Indies captain Shai Hope says a tip from MS Dhoni shaped his match-winning 162 not out in the third ODI against India, a chase praised by Daren Sammy.
India and West Indies play the third ODI of their series at the PCA International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh on Saturday 3 October, in the afternoon.
India, led by Shubman Gill, are expected to field Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ruturaj Gaikwad and KL Rahul, who keeps wicket, with Naman Dhir and Ravindra Jadeja adding depth. Auqib Nabi, Gurnoor Brar, Kuldeep Yadav and Prasidh Krishna make up the bowling. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Dhruv Jurel and Mohammed Siraj are also in the squad.
West Indies, captained by Shai Hope, are expected to open with John Campbell and Keacy Carty, with Amir Jangoo, Sherfane Rutherford and Roston Chase to follow. Keemo Paul, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Jayden Seales and Vitel Lawes complete the likely XI, and the squad also includes Jewel Andrew, Matthew Forde, Justin Greaves and Gudakesh Motie.
This is expected to be a batting-friendly day, with the pitch likely to stay good for batting in the second innings. Spinners may have a role in the middle overs.
The surface at the PCA International Cricket Stadium is expected to give bat and ball a fair contest. Quick bowlers could get some seam and bounce with the new ball, while batters should find scoring easier once settled and the pitch should stay good for strokes. Spinners and slower bowlers may become important as the innings goes on. Dew is unlikely to matter in an afternoon ODI.
Hot, sunny and dry at about 33–34°C for the 1:30 pm local start, with low to moderate humidity, minimal chance of rain and clear skies. The afternoon heat could tire the players, but a full match looks likely.
