Prince Yadav Hamstring Scare Worries India in Zimbabwe T20I

India are anxious about the fitness of fast bowler Prince Yadav after he left the field injured during the second T20I against Zimbabwe. The 24-year-old had been bowling well when he limped off before finishing his second over.

What happened

Yadav had already carried his form over from the series opener, removing opener Ben Curran and Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza to put India in control. After two balls of his second over, the right-armer seemed to grab at his hamstring. India’s physio came on to check him, but after a short assessment he could not continue and walked off clearly in pain.

With the third and final T20I due the following day, the problem could bring his Zimbabwe tour to an early end.

Timing of the setback

The injury arrives at an important point in his young international career. India have a full schedule ahead: a three-match T20I series and a five-match ODI series at home against West Indies in September, then a full tour of New Zealand later in the year. A strong run in Zimbabwe would have helped his claim to a regular squad place as preparations continue for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup.

India’s recovery in the format

The team have recovered well in T20Is after losing back-to-back series to Ireland and England earlier this month. Under new captain Shreyas Iyer they won their first game, a seven-wicket victory in the opening match against Zimbabwe, in which Yadav returned 2/19 from his four overs.
