Delhi Capitals have appointed Sourav Ganguly as head coach for IPL 2027. The 54-year-old former India captain takes over from Hemang Badani, who had held the job since 2024.
Why the change
The move follows a sixth-place finish in IPL 2026, which left Delhi out of the playoffs. They also missed the playoffs in 2025.
A long link with the franchise
Ganguly knows the club well. He joined as an Advisor in 2019, when Delhi reached the IPL playoffs for the first time since 2012. He returned in January 2023 as Director of Cricket, overseeing both the men’s and women’s teams.
In a statement released by the franchise, Ganguly said Delhi Capitals is very close to his heart. He spoke of a talented group that has played good cricket recently, and said he looks forward to working with the squad and building a strong, fearless team.
Owner’s view
Chairman and co-owner Parth Jindal welcomed the appointment and called Ganguly an integral part of the franchise’s family. Jindal said he was confident Ganguly’s leadership and experience can help the team challenge for a first IPL title.
For Delhi, the appointment starts a new chapter. The club will hope Ganguly’s knowledge of the organisation and of Indian cricket can bring lasting success.
