Former Pakistan batter Basit Ali has asked who the vice-captain is in Pakistan’s white-ball sides, after the PCB announced squads without naming one.
The announcement
On October 5 the PCB named Sahibzada Farhan T20I captain and Shaheen Shah Afridi ODI captain. No vice-captain was officially named for either format.
Pakistan play Sri Lanka in a T20I series starting on October 9, with the second and third matches on October 11 and 13. They then take part in an ODI tri-series with Sri Lanka and England from October 18.
Basit’s question
Basit posted on social media addressing PCB official Aaqib Javed, asking in Urdu who the vice-captain of the T20I and ODI teams is.
Abdul Samad was vice-captain at the 2026 Asian Games, but the PCB has not said whether he or another player will hold the post for these assignments.
Context
With the T20Is only days away, the absence of a named deputy has raised questions about Pakistan’s leadership structure. The team recently took silver at the 2026 Asian Games, losing the men’s cricket final to India in Nisshin, Japan.
