Jasprit Bumrah’s latest outing for Mumbai Indians has prompted former India players to question how he is being managed. He conceded 45 runs without taking a wicket, the seventh time this season he has gone wicketless.
Call for an honest conversation
Former India cricketer Veda Krishnamurthy said the team management should speak openly with Bumrah about his physical and mental condition. She noted that with senior figures such as captain Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma in the group, the side is well placed to judge whether he needs a short break to come back stronger. A transparent talk, she said, could show whether he is at full capacity or needs rest.
Bangar on rest and usage
Former all-rounder Sanjay Bangar said the franchise may face a tough decision depending on its priorities. If Mumbai are ready to accept some compromise on results, he suggested, resting Bumrah for the remaining games could be an option.
Bangar felt the problem might lie in how Bumrah is used rather than any lack of effort. He thought the bowler looked to be trying hard but that questionable bowling changes may have added to his difficulties.
The match
Bumrah came on early and was hit heavily in his first two overs, though he regained some control later. Mumbai still won comfortably, chasing a daunting target of 229, with Ryan Rickelton named Player of the Match for his batting.
