Suryakumar Yadav Unfollows Mumbai Indians on Instagram After a Poor IPL 2026

Suryakumar Yadav has unfollowed Mumbai Indians on Instagram and removed most of his franchise-related posts, fuelling talk about his future with the team.

What changed on his profile

The India batter has deleted most MI content going back to 2021. The only recent visible post with an MI training jersey is a photo alongside MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma. Mumbai Indians, however, still follow the 35-year-old.

His MI record and a tough season

MI bought Suryakumar for ₹3.2 crore at the IPL 2018 mega auction. He is the franchise’s second-highest run-scorer, with 4,020 runs from 125 innings at a strike rate of 151.24. IPL 2026 was disappointing, though: he made 270 runs in 13 innings at an average of 20.76 and a strike rate of 147.54. Mumbai finished ninth, with four wins from 14 games, and missed the playoffs.

Captaincy decision

The activity comes shortly after he lost the India T20I captaincy and a place in the XI. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar called it a tough decision just after a World Cup win. He said the selectors usually reassess after a World Cup, and that it was partly down to Suryakumar’s form and partly about the next cycle of just over two years. He described Shreyas Iyer as a deserving candidate.

Suryakumar’s record as T20I captain is still strong. India stayed unbeaten in bilateral series under him and succeeded in major events, including the Asia Cup 2026 and the T20 World Cup 2026.
