Suryakumar Yadav has called Rohit Sharma the best captain he has played under. The Mumbai batter spoke about his time alongside Rohit for India and the Mumbai Indians, and about what made him such an effective leader.
Communication and backing
On Aakash Chopra’s YouTube show Baith & Bol, Suryakumar said he learned a great deal from Rohit about how to talk to players and how to support everyone. Those two qualities, he said, stood out throughout their time together.
Calm in the 2024 final
The 2024 T20 World Cup final against South Africa left a lasting impression on him. Despite the pressure, Rohit stayed composed and relaxed on the field, and Suryakumar admired how he handled tense moments without letting them affect his decisions.
Years under his leadership
Suryakumar played under Rohit at the Mumbai Indians from 2018 to 2023, giving him years of first-hand experience. In his view, Rohit’s communication, trust in his players and ability to keep the team calm were among his biggest strengths.
Looking to return
Suryakumar is now trying to win back a place in India’s T20I team. He lost his position despite leading India to the T20 World Cup title earlier this year. A strong domestic campaign and a good IPL season could help him get back.
