Mohammad Rizwan has been frank about his poor run, saying that on current performances he does not deserve a place in the Pakistan team.
A difficult PSL
The wicketkeeper-batter has scored only 107 runs in seven innings in the 2026 Pakistan Super League, struggling for consistency and impact. He spoke to the media after Rawalpindi lost to Lahore Qalandars on April 18.
Rizwan was also left out of Pakistan’s T20I squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup, with concerns raised over his strike rate and difficulty accelerating in the shortest format.
Self-criticism and resolve
Rizwan said he had criticised himself before, even suggesting in earlier conversations, including during his spell in the Big Bash League, that he was not worthy of national selection. He also mentioned private talks with teammates, acknowledging that he has long known about the doubts over his T20 game.
Even so, he made clear he is not giving up. He took responsibility for his form but said he would keep fighting and working hard to regain his place rather than walk away from the game.
Pakistan moved on
Pakistan reached the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup without him at his best or in the squad, with opener Sahibzada Farhan standing out. Farhan scored 383 runs in the tournament, including two centuries.
