Three-time PSL champions Lahore Qalandars will rejoin the Global Super League, with owner Sameen Rana and chairman Clive Lloyd welcoming the comeback.
Profile of Lahore Qalandars, the Pakistan Super League side from Lahore: how the franchise began, its home ground and its back-to-back titles.
Lahore Qalandars are one of the founding franchises of the Pakistan Super League and represent Pakistan’s cultural capital. After several years at the bottom of the standings, the side transformed into one of the league’s strongest teams and won consecutive championships in 2022 and 2023.
The franchise was created in 2015 for the PSL’s inaugural season in 2016. It is owned by the Rana family, and the team is known for its green and yellow-toned identity and for its high-energy approach to fan engagement. The name nods to the Qalandar tradition of Sufi wandering mystics associated with the region.
The team plays its home games at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, one of the largest and most historic cricket grounds in Pakistan. The stadium has staged international cricket for many decades, including World Cup matches, and its crowds are among the most vocal in the country.
In the early seasons the Qalandars struggled for results and were regularly placed near the foot of the table. The club responded by investing in player development, including a talent-spotting programme known as the Rising Stars initiative, which sought young players from across Pakistan and gave them professional coaching and exposure.
That long-term approach paid off in 2022, when Lahore won the PSL title for the first time, defeating Multan Sultans in the final. They repeated the achievement in 2023, again beating Multan Sultans to become the first team to win back-to-back PSL titles. These remain their championships as of 2024.
The Qalandars’ story is often held up as an example of patient team-building in franchise cricket. The development pathway has also fed fast bowlers and other players into Pakistan’s wider talent pool.
