Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been named captain of India for the Hong Kong Sixes 2026. The 36-year-old seamer returns to representative cricket after 229 international appearances across Tests, ODIs and T20Is.
The squad
The side includes experienced T20 players such as Krunal Pandya, Rahul Tewatia and Thangarasu Natarajan. The full squad is Bhuvneshwar Kumar (captain), Krunal Pandya, Shashank Singh, Rahul Tewatia, Nitish Rana, Rahul Tripathi and Thangarasu Natarajan.
Draw and format
India are in Pool C with Pakistan and the UAE. Pool winners go into the Cup semi-finals, runners-up into the Plate semi-finals and third-placed teams into the Bowl competition.
Each side fields six players and an innings lasts six overs. One designated bowler may bowl a maximum of two overs.
Improving a poor record
India struggled in the previous two editions of the revived event, going out at the group stage in both 2024 and 2025. They have won only one of their last 10 matches in the competition.
Bhuvneshwar’s experience and his ability to swing the ball and bowl under pressure could count in such a short format. The main obstacle in the pool is Pakistan, the 2025 champions, and India will probably need to top the group to reach the Cup semi-finals.
