Aiden Markram has played down talk that he could become Lucknow Super Giants captain, saying the decision belongs to the franchise and that he is not especially concerned either way.
Plenty of leaders at LSG
Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Markram said he had no idea what the club would decide and that the group already contains several quality leaders. Whoever is given the job will do it well, he said, adding that he had not yet given the matter much thought.
LSG finished bottom of the table in IPL 2026 with four wins from 13 games. With Rishabh Pant no longer at the franchise, they will name a new captain before IPL 2027.
Learning in The Hundred
For now, the 30-year-old South African is gaining captaincy experience at Manchester Super Giants in The Hundred. His side had won two of their first five matches, and he said he has relished the challenge. He singled out Jos Buttler as a big help, noting that having such experienced players around makes the role easier.
Markram also talked about adjusting to the 100-ball format, which he said calls for a different tactical approach from standard T20. Bowling 10 balls in a row from one end is still a puzzle, he explained, as it is easy to think you have squeezed in five and then remember there are five more to come from the shorter side. Even so, he called it good fun and a high-standard competition.
