Ellyse Perry has paid a warm tribute to Smriti Mandhana, saying the Indian opener has everything needed to thrive at the top level. In a conversation with JioStar, the Australian all-rounder pointed to Mandhana’s skill, willpower and strong mind, and to how she prepares, understands her own game and enjoys a challenge.
The comments show how highly Mandhana is regarded by her peers. Beyond natural ability, she is known for composure and consistency across formats.
Both shone in The Hundred
Perry captained Birmingham Phoenix Women in The Hundred 2026. They came close to the title but fell short. She scored 223 runs in seven matches at an average of 55.75.
Mandhana played for Manchester Super Giants Women, who went out at the league stage. She still made 232 runs in seven innings, averaging close to 39 at a strike rate of nearly 140, combining pace with consistency.
More than talent
Mandhana, who was born in Mumbai, also captains Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Women’s Premier League, where she balances leadership with her role as a key top-order batter.
Perry’s assessment suggests her success rests on more than natural talent. Preparation, mental resilience, self-knowledge and a willingness to take on difficult challenges have all played a part.
With her continuing impact for India and her franchise, Mandhana remains one of the most recognisable and respected players in the women’s game.
