Mandhana Passes Mithali Raj as Women’s Cricket’s Top Run-Scorer

Smriti Mandhana is now the leading run-scorer in women’s international cricket. She reached 10,880 runs, going beyond the 10,868 recorded by former India captain Mithali Raj.

The landmark arrived in a blistering 124 from 64 balls against Hong Kong, an innings containing 14 fours and seven sixes. Three successive sixes off Ruchitha Venkatesh in the 18th over took her past Mithali’s mark.

Mandhana said afterwards that she had not realised she had broken the record, as she was not tracking her exact total. She described overtaking Mithali as especially meaningful, since the former captain had been a major role model for her generation.

More records in the same innings

It was Mandhana’s second T20I century, following her 112 against England in 2025. Her 124 is the highest individual score in the history of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup, beating Chamari Athapaththu’s unbeaten 119 against Malaysia in 2024.

The hundred was also her 18th in international cricket, one more than Australia’s Meg Lanning, who had held the record with 17. Mandhana named both Mithali and Lanning as legends she had grown up watching and learning from.

Pakistan next

Few other Indian batters made an impression against the Hong Kong attack. Shafali Verma’s 28 was the next best score in the innings.

India now prepare for their meeting with Pakistan on Saturday, September 5, with Mandhana arriving in outstanding form.
