The England and Wales Cricket Board has appointed Leah Poulton as managing director of England Women’s cricket.
Background
Poulton spent the last six years as Head of Elite Female Cricket at Cricket New South Wales, helping to develop high-performance structures at state level. Before that she worked for three years at Cricket Australia as a High Performance Coach.
She will work closely with England Women’s head coach Charlotte Edwards and captain Nat Sciver-Brunt as the team prepares for a demanding period that includes the ICC Women’s Champions Trophy and the Women’s Ashes in 2027.
ECB view
ECB Chief Executive Richard Gould pointed to the progress under Edwards and to England reaching the final of this summer’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, saying the team is well placed for a successful era. He said Poulton’s playing and administrative background made her an ideal choice and expected her and Edwards to be a formidable combination.
Poulton’s aims
Poulton called the job an honour and an exciting opportunity, and acknowledged Clare Connor’s major contribution to English and global cricket. She said she wants to help shape programmes and invest in people, stressing the importance of strong pathways and a healthy domestic game, and hopes to give the next generation of English players every opportunity.
The ECB hopes her high-performance experience will strengthen the pathway and build on the team’s recent progress.
