Harry Brook Becomes First Captain With Two T20I Hundreds in a Year

Harry Brook has made T20I history, becoming the first Full Member captain to score two centuries in a single calendar year. He did it in the opening match of the series against Sri Lanka at Southampton.

The innings

Brook finished unbeaten on 114 from 49 balls. He reached his hundred in just 42 deliveries, among the quickest T20I centuries by a captain, and it is his highest T20I score as skipper. It is his second hundred of 2026, which gives him sole possession of the calendar-year mark for a Full Member captain in the format.

How it compares

No Full Member captain had previously made two T20I centuries in one year. In other formats, Ricky Ponting holds the Test record with seven hundreds as captain in 2006, while Virat Kohli made six ODI centuries as captain across 2017 and 2018.

Brook’s overall tally as captain is also notable. His two hundreds have come in 23 innings, while Rohit Sharma and Babar Azam have each scored three as captains, in 62 and 78 innings respectively.

What next

The knock underlined his aggressive approach while carrying the responsibility of leading England. Two T20Is remain in the series, giving Brook more chances to add to a record-breaking 2026.
