Former England captain Michael Vaughan has backed Harry Brook to lead England to a white-ball trophy, saying he is convinced the batter is good enough to make it happen.
New captain
Brook, 26, took over as England’s white-ball captain after Jos Buttler stepped down following England’s group-stage exit from the ICC Champions Trophy. The move shows how much England value him as both a batter and a leader.
He had already been given leadership responsibility, having captained England in the September ODI series against Australia after serving as vice-captain at the Champions Trophy.
Vaughan’s view
Speaking on The Overlap Cricket, Vaughan said he had no doubt Brook would have a moment where England win an Ashes series and he is man of the series. He added that Brook should, and he believes will, win England a white-ball trophy, while accepting that a captain needs the other ten players too.
Test standing
Brook is also one of the leading Test batters, currently No. 2 in the ICC Test batting rankings.
With an aggressive style and growing experience as captain, he is central to England’s plans in all formats. His next assignment is the tri-nation series featuring England, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
