An odd passage of play in the last over of the Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants game left many wondering why Kartik Tyagi was still bowling after two high full tosses.
What happened
After the second no-ball, the KKR players formed a huddle and agreed that Anukul Roy would complete the over. Confusion followed when Anukul began setting his field and Tyagi was seen walking back to mark his run-up again. He was then allowed to carry on bowling.
The explanation
The question of why he was not taken off drew plenty of debate. A bowler is normally removed from the attack when deliveries are judged dangerous. In this case, the officials reportedly decided the second full toss was not dangerous enough to require his immediate removal and that it was not deliberate.
Commentators on air backed that reading, saying that although both deliveries were high, the second did not cross the threshold for a mandatory suspension from bowling.
The unusual sequence added to the drama of an already tense final over in a closely fought contest.
