Kolkata Knight Riders batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee for his reaction to being given out obstructing the field against Lucknow Super Giants.
The dismissal
In the fifth over, a throw from mid-on hit Raghuvanshi as he dived back towards the striker’s end. On-field umpires Keyur Kelkar and Abhijeet Bengeri referred the matter, and third umpire Rohan Pandit decided the batter had changed direction too much while getting back to the crease, upholding the dismissal.
Raghuvanshi talked at length with the officials, arguing there was no time to alter course sharply after calling off his run. On his way off he hit the boundary cushion with his bat and later threw his helmet in the dugout. KKR head coach Abhishek Nayar was also seen in an animated conversation with the fourth umpire.
The sanction
The IPL said the punishment fell under Article 2.2 of its Code of Conduct, which covers misuse of cricket equipment or ground fixtures. Raghuvanshi accepted the charge and the penalty set by match referee Javagal Srinath.
KKR win the Super Over
KKR made 155 in their 20 overs, led by Rinku Singh’s unbeaten 83. LSG lost wickets regularly in reply, although late resistance from Ayush Badoni and Himmat Singh kept them in the game. In the Super Over, Sunil Narine removed Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram, leaving LSG with one run, and KKR got it on the first ball.
