Bangladesh Cricket Board president Tamim Iqbal has voiced confidence that India’s long-delayed tour of Bangladesh will go ahead. Speaking on Monday, he confirmed that the BCB and BCCI are in contact and said the discussions have been fruitful.
He said both boards are talking and that he is hopeful the tour will happen.
The proposed series
The plan is for three ODIs and three T20Is, with January 2027 now emerging as a possible window. The tour was first scheduled for August 2025 before being postponed, and September 2026 was later named as the next potential slot.
Why it stalled
The tour has been clouded by tension between the two boards. Several off-field matters contributed, including the controversy around Mustafizur Rahman’s removal from IPL 2026.
Matters grew more complicated when Bangladesh’s interim government told the BCB to withdraw from the 2026 T20 World Cup, raising further doubts about bilateral cricket between the countries.
Earlier in August, Tamim had said another postponement was possible. His latest remarks point to a more positive turn in negotiations.
Rebuilding the relationship
Tamim became BCB president on 7 April 2026 and has concentrated on repairing ties with the BCCI. On 1 August he visited India and spent time at the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, a trip seen as part of efforts to strengthen relations and move the series forward.
Reports say the tour could be shifted to early 2027, but neither board has confirmed new dates. Tamim remains confident that India will eventually visit.
