Tamim Iqbal Hopeful India Will Tour Bangladesh as Board Talks Continue

Bangladesh Cricket Board chief Tamim Iqbal says he remains optimistic that India will visit in September, even though the tour has not yet been officially confirmed. The planned itinerary comprises three ODIs and three T20Is.

Uncertainty around the series

Political developments between the two neighbours have clouded the picture, but recent signs suggest the trip is still on course provided the outstanding formalities are completed. Tamim told the media he had no concrete update to share, but said the BCB and BCCI are exchanging emails regularly. He described a Bangladesh-India series as something that excites fans, journalists, players and officials alike.

He also insisted that Bangladesh is a very safe place to host international cricket and said he was hopeful the Indian side would come. According to him, the BCB is willing to take whatever steps are needed on its side.

Tamim accepted that part of the decision is out of the BCB’s hands, yet he said conversations with Indian officials had been encouraging. He said he was doing everything within his remit, and that the final call rests with the Indian board, with clarity expected before long.

New role at the ICC

Tamim also spoke about his recent appointment as chairman of the ICC Franchise League Committee, calling it a source of pride for himself and for Bangladesh cricket. He explained that the committee will help regulate franchise leagues around the world, overseeing approvals, governance standards and operating guidelines as the T20 landscape keeps growing.

His first ICC meeting, he said, was very productive, and he believes the new committee will have a significant say in how franchise cricket develops globally.
