The Bangladesh Cricket Board has approved a new six-team domestic competition covering three formats, with the teams to be owned by corporate and financial institutions.
The decision came at a virtual board meeting on September 20, 2026. The T20 event is expected to launch the system, with a tentative window in December 2026, although dates and the tournament’s name have yet to be confirmed.
The ownership model
The board plans to invite established Bangladeshi corporate and financial institutions to take ownership rights for the six teams, initially for three years. It says the aim is a more organised and commercially sustainable domestic structure, in which the same teams could play First-Class, One-Day and T20 cricket. Owners have not been confirmed, and further details on the process, teams and schedule are due later.
Higher match fees
The board has also raised domestic match fees across men’s, women’s and age-group cricket.
- Men’s First-Class: BDT 1.5 lakh per match
- Men’s List A One-Day: BDT 1 lakh per match
- Men’s T20: BDT 80,000 per match
- National Cricket League second XI: BDT 15,000 per match
- Women’s three-day match: BDT 40,000; One-Day: BDT 30,000; T20: BDT 20,000
- Bangladesh Under-19 daily allowance: BDT 20,000, up from BDT 10,000
If the December window holds, the competition will bring First-Class, One-Day and T20 cricket in Bangladesh under one framework.
