Graeme Swann believes Vaibhav Sooryavanshi should make his India debut in the T20I series against Ireland. The former England off-spinner called the teenager the main attraction in the game at the moment.
A record-setting selection
Sooryavanshi has been picked for India’s T20I squad for the tours of Ireland and England. At 15 years and 71 days he becomes the youngest player ever selected for India, and he is on course to break an age record held by Sachin Tendulkar, who debuted at 16 years and 205 days.
Swann, speaking on JioHotstar, said he was glad the selectors had picked him for the good of world cricket, and he argued that the youngster should play in the two-match series in Ireland, which starts in Belfast on June 26.
From doubter to believer
Swann admitted that he had expected top-class bowlers to find Sooryavanshi out. IPL 2026 changed his mind. He singled out the 97 the teenager hit in the Eliminator, describing it as one of the most destructive innings he has seen. Watching him take apart Pat Cummins, he said, convinced him the player was the real deal.
Swann added that India should not hesitate to bring him into the senior set-up, calling him a potential superstar for the next two decades.
The call-up follows a remarkable season with Rajasthan Royals. Sooryavanshi topped the run charts with 776 runs at a strike rate of 237.30, including one century and five half-centuries.
