Former England spinner Graeme Swann has praised Ishan Kishan for his willingness to take on any job asked of him, following a superb century on his return to India’s ODI side.
A return in style
Kishan, often described as a man of comebacks, struck 125 from only 79 balls against Afghanistan. The innings contained 14 fours and seven sixes and put India in a commanding position, helping them go 2-0 up in the three-match series, a lead Afghanistan cannot overturn.
Swann, speaking on JioStar, was struck by how easily Kishan slotted back into the team after a long absence, saying he looked as though he had never been away. He added that Kishan is the kind of cricketer who gets on with whatever role he is given without grumbling.
Maturity and shot selection
The analyst highlighted the way Kishan built his innings. He began cautiously, then changed gears, going from fifty to a hundred in just 29 balls. For Swann, that acceleration showed a more mature temperament and an ability to adapt at the top level.
Swann also admired Kishan’s technique, especially his controlled lofted drives over extra cover, which he said was a shot clearly worked on over recent years. He described the knock as a mix of aggression and intelligence rather than wild hitting, noting that Kishan picked his moments and made bowlers change their lines.
The century not only underlined Kishan’s credentials in the ODI set-up but also played a significant part in India sealing the series against Afghanistan, strengthening his case as a long-term option in the national side.
