Mitchell Starc has moved past Kapil Dev on the list of Test wicket-takers. The Australian left-armer got Litton Das for a duck on day two to reach 435 wickets and climb to 11th place all-time. A day earlier, he had drawn level with Kapil’s 434 by dismissing Shadman Islam on the first day.
Fewer matches, same milestone
Starc got there in 106 Tests. Kapil Dev needed 131 matches for his 434 wickets.
He is now five wickets short of the top ten, where South Africa’s Dale Steyn sits 10th on 439. Among Australians he still trails Nathan Lyon and Glenn McGrath, who finished with 563, while Shane Warne leads the national list with 708.
Hasan Mahmud’s big day
Bangladesh seamer Hasan Mahmud was the star of Australia’s first innings, taking 6 for 55 as the hosts were dismissed for 198. His wickets included Steve Smith, who made 71, and Travis Head.
Mahmud said his county cricket experience with Kent had helped him adapt to conditions like those in Australia, particularly when bowling with the new ball on a fresh pitch.
