Bangladesh have added Soumya Sarkar to their T20I squad as cover for Litton Das, who picked up a muscle strain during the third and final ODI against Australia.
Litton under observation
Litton is being monitored by the medical team and will have a scan one day before the first T20I. The result will determine whether he is available for the opening game. No major injury concern has been reported so far, and the selection of Soumya is described as a precautionary step to protect squad depth.
If Litton misses out, vice-captain Towhid Hridoy is expected to captain the side. A final call on Litton will be made closer to the start of the three-match series.
Soumya’s record
The 33-year-old brings plenty of experience, having scored 1,462 runs in 87 T20Is for Bangladesh. He was in the ODI squad against Australia before returning to the T20 set-up. A Bangladesh Cricket Board statement, quoted by Cricbuzz, underlined his experience and value to the group.
Series schedule
The T20I series opens in Chattogram on June 17, with the remaining two games at the same venue on June 19 and June 21. Bangladesh arrive in good heart after their historic 2-1 ODI series win and will want to carry that momentum into the shorter format against Australia.
