Royal Challengers Bengaluru head coach Andy Flower has been fined 15% of his match fee for a Level 1 breach of the IPL Code of Conduct, following a heated moment during the team’s win over Mumbai Indians in Raipur.
What happened
The IPL said Flower breached Article 2.3, which covers the use of an audible obscenity. It occurred in an argument with the fourth umpire during the 17th over of RCB’s chase.
The trigger was a disputed boundary involving Krunal Pandya. A catch attempt near the rope left uncertainty about whether the ball had touched the boundary cushions. Replays later showed no contact, so the decision stood as a dot ball.
Flower accepted that the exchange with the officials had been aggressive and agreed to the sanction handed down by match referee Amit Sharma. Under IPL rules, Level 1 penalties are final and binding.
The match itself
RCB restricted Mumbai to 166/6, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar taking 4/23. Krunal then made 73 off 46 balls as RCB reached 166 on the last delivery. The result strengthens RCB’s season, while Mumbai’s tournament hopes ended.
