Irfan Pathan has criticised Rajasthan Royals’ leadership during their heavy defeat to Gujarat Titans, singling out stand-in captain Yashasvi Jaiswal for a lack of communication on the field.
The review that was never taken
The moment came on the last ball of the 13th over, when Yash Raj Punja was penalised for a wide. Pathan said replays showed it was not a wide, yet neither Dhruv Jurel nor Jaiswal talked about asking for a review.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, he argued that Jurel, as wicketkeeper, was best placed to judge the delivery, but there was no discussion with the captain. Shubman Gill then hit the next ball for four, and Pathan felt the lapse hurt Royals. He added that clear communication matters most under pressure.
Doubts over the powerplay
Pathan also voiced disappointment with the overall display and questioned how Royals approached the powerplay. Jofra Archer conceded 46 runs in three overs, including 17 in his first. Pathan said he has rarely felt so let down watching Rajasthan and could not follow the plan, despite Archer’s strong season.
The result
Gujarat piled up 229/4, built on half-centuries from Gill and Sai Sudharsan. Royals were bowled out for 152, with Rashid Khan taking four wickets.
