Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made his India debut in the second T20I against England in Manchester on July 4, becoming the youngest player to represent India internationally. He made 14 before England won by four wickets to lead the five-match series 1-0, the opener having been washed out.
Parthiv Patel said the whole cricketing world had been waiting for the debut. Speaking on JioHotstar’s Match Centre Live, he noted that at 15 Sooryavanshi has passed Sachin Tendulkar’s record as India’s youngest debutant, and called it a huge achievement.
Patel said the 14 should not be judged on numbers. Sooryavanshi hit some good shots and missed a few, which he called normal, and the flick off Jofra Archer showed his quality. In Patel’s view the sky is the limit, and the teenager has shown he can cope with heavy expectation.
The rise to India colours
The opener earned his call-up after a remarkable IPL 2026, in which he scored 776 runs in 14 innings at a strike rate of 237.31 and won the Orange Cap.
Dasgupta on India’s bowling
Former India wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta praised England’s chase but was worried about India’s bowling make-up. He argued that two specialist seamers plus Shivam Dube leave too little cover if one of the quicks has a bad day.
Dasgupta suggested playing three frontline seamers in English conditions, even at the cost of some batting depth, and asked whether three spinners are needed. He accepted these are hard choices but said they could matter a great deal.
India trail 1-0 and are expected to review their bowling combination and overall balance for the third T20I as they try to level the series.
