Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz was admitted to hospital for observation after suffering a concussion during the ODI against Australia, even though he stayed at the crease to see his side home.
The moment of impact
In the 34th over, Mehidy tried to pull a Nathan Ellis bouncer and was hit on the side of the helmet. He dropped to his knees straight away, and Bangladesh physio Bayjedul Islam Khan came out to treat him, joined by further medical staff and the Australian team doctor as a precaution.
Mehidy looked uncomfortable and was even sick after the blow, but he carried on batting after an assessment in the middle. He finished unbeaten on 22 as Bangladesh completed their chase, and was then taken to hospital for further checks.
Medical update
Bayjedul said Mehidy had been concussed, had kept playing after being checked on the field, and had been sent to hospital so the remaining symptoms could be assessed and he could be monitored generally. He is due to stay there for the next 24 hours.
Team officials said his condition was stable. In his absence, vice-captain Najmul Hossain Shanto took part in the post-match presentation.
The match
Bangladesh bowled Australia out for 187 in a rain-affected innings of 42 overs, then chased a revised target of 192 from 41 overs without much trouble. Shanto, Soumya Sarkar and Towhid Hridoy all made important contributions.
The third and final ODI of the series takes place in Dhaka on Sunday, June 14.
