Hardik Pandya has become the focus of IPL trade talk. Multiple reports say seven franchises are interested, with Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals leading and having reportedly progressed further than the rest.
A Tough Season in Mumbai
Mumbai Indians finished ninth in IPL 2026, winning four of 14 league games. Pandya struggled personally, making 206 runs in 10 innings at an average of 22.89 and taking four wickets at an economy rate of 11.43.
What Each Suitor Wants
Reports suggest KKR want a long-term captain and see Ajinkya Rahane’s leadership as a short-term arrangement. They are believed to be ready to offer Pandya the captaincy after Shreyas Iyer’s successful spell. An IPL insider quoted by DNA India said Kolkata tried to start talks earlier, but scheduling conflicts delayed them, and discussions have since resumed.
Rajasthan are said to have explored a swap involving opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. However, they reportedly see Riyan Parag as their long-term captain, so Pandya may have to give up leadership if he joins, which could influence his decision.
Nothing Confirmed
Neither Mumbai nor any of the interested teams has confirmed trade talks. Under IPL rules a trade needs agreement from both franchises and the player, and must be completed before the trade window closes ahead of the IPL 2027 mini auction in December.
