BCCI AGM to Discuss Next Chief Selector as Agarkar’s Term Nears End

BCCI AGM to Discuss Next Chief Selector as Agarkar’s Term Nears End

The BCCI’s annual general meeting is expected to address who will lead India’s men’s selection committee, with Ajit Agarkar’s tenure due to finish in September 2026.

Agarkar’s tenure

Agarkar became chairman of the senior men’s selection committee on July 4, 2023, and has overseen squad selection in all three formats. He chaired the meeting on September 16 at which India’s squads for the home white-ball series against the West Indies were named, which could be among his last official duties.

The BCCI has not confirmed whether he will be extended or replaced.

Possible successors

Reports say former India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel and former India spinner Pragyan Ojha are among those being considered. The board is expected to finish its evaluation before making an announcement.

Other agenda items

The AGM will also deal with the nomination of India’s representative to the ICC.

Busy schedule ahead

After the West Indies series, India host New Zealand for a multi-format tour in October and November 2026, with five T20Is, five ODIs and two Tests. The next chief selector will help plan squads for that series and beyond.
