Babar Azam says he is targeting all three formats after PSL resurgence

Babar Azam has made it clear that his ambitions for Pakistan are not limited to white-ball cricket, saying he wants to play a part in all three formats after his recent return to form in the PSL.

Why red-ball cricket matters to him

Babar said a batter should not confine himself to limited-overs cricket. In his view, Test cricket teaches patience and the craft of building big innings, and those lessons carry over into the shorter formats.

He is now expected to take that momentum into Pakistan’s two-match Test series against Bangladesh, which forms part of the ICC World Test Championship cycle.

A difficult spell behind him

The right-hander has not scored a Test hundred since December 2022. He also struggled for consistency in white-ball cricket earlier this year, making just one half-century in the build-up to the World Cup.

Babar accepted that he had fallen short of his own standards but called such phases a normal part of a cricketer’s journey. He said the sensible response is to step back, analyse mistakes and work on them, and that the support of family, friends and coaches helped keep him motivated.

With his confidence and form restored, Babar’s aim is to re-establish himself as a key figure for Pakistan across formats in the international fixtures that lie ahead.
