Bangladesh’s first win of the current World Test Championship cycle has moved them up to sixth place in the standings, while Pakistan have fallen to seventh.
The result in Dhaka
Najmul Hossain Shanto’s batting made the difference, with a century in the first innings and a vital 87 in the second. Pakistan, led by Shan Masood, were set 267 on a wearing pitch at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium and were dismissed for 163 on the final day. The success follows earlier setbacks for Bangladesh in the cycle, a defeat and a draw in Sri Lanka.
Who leads the table
Reigning champions Australia remain first after a dominant Ashes campaign and a 3-0 sweep of the West Indies. New Zealand are second on 77.78 per cent after winning 2-0 in the Caribbean, and South Africa are third on the back of strong tours of Pakistan and India.
India stay fifth. They began the cycle with a 2-2 draw against England and swept the West Indies at home, but consecutive defeats against New Zealand and South Africa have dented their progress, leaving them with five straight losses. Their next assignment in the cycle is the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at home against Australia in 2027.
