Warwickshire Sign Spinner Usman Tariq for 2026 T20 Blast Campaign

Warwickshire have secured the services of spinner Usman Tariq for the 2026 T20 Blast. The 28-year-old will spend much of the English summer in Birmingham, turning out for the Bears before moving on to Birmingham Phoenix for The Hundred.

Phoenix bought Tariq for £140,000 at the player auction held earlier this year, so the two commitments will keep him based at Edgbaston for a large part of the season. Tariq said he wants to bring energy and enjoyment to the dressing room and is looking forward to playing in front of the Edgbaston crowd.

A fast start in international cricket

The right-arm spinner made his international debut in November 2025 and has quickly earned a name as an effective T20 bowler. In nine T20 Internationals he has taken 18 wickets at an economy rate of 6.66.

His wider T20 record is also strong. Across 60 matches in the format, Tariq has 89 wickets, with an economy of 6.95 and a strike rate of 15.30.

Experience of leagues around the world

Tariq arrives with considerable franchise experience. He has played for Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League, Desert Vipers in the ILT20 and Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League.

Warwickshire also have a track record of bringing in Pakistani overseas players. Hasan Ali, Aamer Jamal and Mir Hamza have all represented the club in recent seasons, and Tariq now joins that list as the Bears prepare for the T20 Blast.
