Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Daniel Vettori has played down a heavy loss to Gujarat Titans, saying every team in the IPL goes through a poor day and that his squad has the quality to respond straight away.
A collapse in the chase
Needing 169 in Ahmedabad, SRH were dismissed for 86 in 14.5 overs. Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Siraj, Jason Holder and Prasidh Krishna shared nine wickets between them as Gujarat’s pace attack ran through the order. Vettori said the early loss of Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan derailed the pursuit and meant no pressure could be built on the Gujarat bowlers.
Positives from the first innings
Vettori was pleased with how his bowlers restricted Gujarat to 168 for 5 on a pitch that suited batting. Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler both fell in the powerplay, and Pat Cummins and Praful Hinge stayed disciplined. After the game he said the team was content at the halfway stage but accepted that the batters did not seize the initiative.
Sai Sudharsan anchored the Gujarat innings with a composed 61, while a quickfire half-century from Washington Sundar late on tilted the contest firmly in the Titans’ favour.
Table and outlook
The former New Zealand captain stressed that bad results are part of a long tournament. The win lifted Gujarat to the top of the IPL 2026 table with 16 points from 12 matches, while SRH now turn their attention to regrouping for their next outing.
