Player SpotlightAmbati Rayudu Names Sunil Narine the Greatest IPL Player Ever After KKR Win
Ambati Rayudu calls Sunil Narine the best player in IPL history after his two-wicket spell helped KKR beat Gujarat Titans at Eden Gardens on 16 May.
Kolkata Knight Riders had won four in a row before losing to RCB, a match in which Angkrish Raghuvanshi made 71 and Rinku Singh an unbeaten 49 to lift KKR to 192, only for Virat Kohli’s century to see RCB home with six wickets in hand. Kartik Tyagi took three wickets in defeat and now has 16 this season.
Raghuvanshi leads KKR’s run charts with 340, Rinku has 286 at a strike rate close to 150, and Finn Allen has 228 in eight matches at a strike rate above 207. Ajinkya Rahane has scored only 170 in his other ten innings outside a 67 in the opener. Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy and Anukul Roy have combined for 29 wickets.
Gujarat Titans have climbed to second after five straight wins, the latest a 168 defence that bowled Sunrisers Hyderabad out for 86, with Kagiso Rabada and Jason Holder taking three each. Sai Sudharsan has 501 runs in 12 games and Shubman Gill 467, while Washington Sundar has 296. Rabada has 21 wickets, Rashid Khan 16 and Mohammed Siraj 13. The middle order is their softer spot, and KKR’s best hope is early wickets, but our preview still leans to Gujarat.
Eden Gardens generally favours batters in T20s, with good pace and bounce for stroke-making. The new ball can swing early, but the surface eases as the game goes on. Spinners may find some grip in the middle overs, though they rarely dominate unless the pitch is dry. The outfield is quick, and dew at night can make it hard to hold the ball, which helps chasing sides. Totals of 170–190 are common and captains often choose to bowl first.
Kolkata should be warm and humid for the 7:30 pm start on 16 May, with temperatures around 30°C and mostly clear to partly cloudy skies. Humidity may climb through the evening, bringing dew later on, and the chance of rain is slight, so interruptions are unlikely.
Our preview picks Gujarat Titans, who have won five in a row and have the in-form top three of Gill, Sudharsan and Buttler.
At Eden Gardens in Kolkata on 16 May 2026, with a 7:30 pm local start.
Some dew is expected later in the night, which may make bowling harder in the second innings.
