Virender Sehwag has criticised Kolkata Knight Riders for the way their expensive batting line-up has performed in IPL 2026, pointing especially to the top order and to all-rounder Cameron Green.
A winless run
KKR have not won in their first five matches. Their only point so far came from a rain-abandoned game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 6, and they have since lost four in a row. That has raised questions about the balance of the side.
Sehwag’s diagnosis
In Sehwag’s opinion the main problem is the batting, particularly at the top. He also questioned Green’s impact. The Australian was bought for INR 25.20 crore but has not produced consistent returns with bat or ball.
Speaking to Cricbuzz, Sehwag said a franchise should admit its auction error if players are not delivering. He felt Green’s performances have not justified his price and that the team is no better balanced with him in it, since he is not contributing in either department.
The proposed fix
Sehwag suggested leaving Green out and bringing in Tim Seifert to strengthen the top order. His suggested batting order has Seifert opening with another aggressive batter, Ajinkya Rahane at three, and power-hitters such as Rovman Powell and Rinku Singh after that.
KKR, captained by Rahane, will try to turn things around against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium on April 17.
