Rohit Sharma Cleared Fit for India’s ODI Series Against Afghanistan

India have received a timely lift ahead of their one-day series against Afghanistan, with Rohit Sharma declared medically fit to take part. Earlier the same day, all-rounder Hardik Pandya had also been given the green light after recovering from the back spasm that bothered him during the IPL, where he captained Mumbai Indians. Both players are expected to link up with the squad shortly before the opening match.

The first ODI is set for Saturday, June 13.

Kohli ruled out, Jaiswal comes in

The good news is tempered by the absence of Virat Kohli. The senior batter has been withdrawn from the series because of a hamstring problem picked up in the IPL 2026 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, where he was turning out for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The selection committee confirmed that Yashasvi Jaiswal has taken his place in the group.

India ODI squad

The party reads: Shubman Gill (captain), Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer (vice-captain), KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Prince Yadav, Gurnoor Brar and Harsh Dubey.

Series schedule

All three matches start at 1:30 pm IST.

  • 1st ODI, June 13: HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala
  • 2nd ODI, June 17: Ekana Stadium, Lucknow
  • 3rd ODI, June 20: MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai

With Rohit and Pandya passed fit, India will have most of their first-choice options available, even though Kohli’s injury forces a change in the batting order. Jaiswal’s inclusion gives the team an additional top-order option for the three-match contest.
