Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag was reportedly seen vaping in the dressing room during his team’s match against Punjab Kings, a moment that has drawn debate away from the cricket.
Legal background
The discussion centres on the fact that e-cigarettes are banned in India under the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act (2019). A violation can carry a fine of up to INR 1 lakh, imprisonment of up to one year, or both, meaning Parag could in theory face legal consequences.
Parag on the win
Reflecting on the victory, Parag said he was happy with the team’s overall showing and felt the plans had been carried out well, though he accepted there was room to improve with both bat and ball.
He praised the middle order for coping with pressure, brushed aside criticism from outside the squad, and said the group is confident in handling different match situations.
He singled out the opening partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for setting up the chase, and credited Shubham Dubey and Donovan Ferreira for finishing the game in style.
Rajasthan’s all-round effort secured a memorable win, even though attention briefly shifted away from the on-field action.
