Josh Inglis was one of the few bright spots in a disappointing Lucknow Super Giants season, and former Indian batter Ambati Rayudu has been full of praise for the Australian.
A fluent farewell
LSG ended their campaign with a loss to Punjab Kings, but Inglis again impressed with a 44-ball 72 at the top of the order. Picked up for INR 8.60 crore after being released by PBKS before the season, the wicketkeeper-batter scored 266 runs in five innings at a strike rate of 186.01, with three half-centuries. He also hit a brilliant 33-ball 85 against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk, and finished as LSG’s third-highest scorer behind Mitchell Marsh (563) and Rishabh Pant (312).
What Rayudu liked
On ESPNcricinfo’s TimeOut show, Rayudu said Inglis is versatile, copes with slower deliveries and every length, and is well suited to subcontinent conditions. He pointed to his strong play against spin, his lap shots and straight hitting, saying he has every shot and a very good head on his shoulders.
Rayudu contrasted him with a few other overseas batters, describing Inglis’ shot selection as superb and noting he is not one-dimensional.
A season that fell short
Inglis’ efforts could not rescue LSG, who won only four of 14 matches. In their last game they made 196 for 6 but could not defend it, as Punjab Kings chased it down comfortably behind a century from Shreyas Iyer.
