The Sydney Sixers have appointed Peter Clarke as head coach of their WBBL side.
He replaces Matthew Mott, who has moved to coach the Sixers men’s team after James Hopes left to join Brisbane Heat and Queensland. Clarke was Mott’s assistant in the last WBBL season, so the change keeps some continuity.
An unusual route
Clarke spent eight years as a psychologist with the Australian women’s team before moving into coaching, first with the University of Queensland. In 2025 he became Cricket NSW women’s head coach and in his first season took the side to the WNCL final.
In his own words
Clarke said he was humbled by the trust shown in him and called the Sixers a storied club with a rich history. He praised a culture in which players and staff keep trying to improve.
He said his earlier roles in Australian cricket and his time with the Sixers last season helped him build strong relationships, which he hopes to strengthen. He also said success has to be earned, that the group has the talent, character and desire to keep improving, and that he wants an environment where everyone can reach their potential.
Last season
The Sixers finished second on the table last year with 13 points from 10 matches, but lost to Perth Scorchers in the Challenger. They will aim to build on that in the 2026-27 campaign.
