Perth Scorchers have secured England’s Freya Kemp for a second consecutive WBBL campaign, strengthening a squad that already features Beth Mooney and Alana King.
Kemp gave the Scorchers extra power in the lower order last season, and her ability to lift the scoring rate at the end of an innings is a big reason the club wanted her back. The Scorchers, who won their first WBBL title in 2021–22, are now building towards WBBL|12.
Kemp said she enjoyed her previous stint and found the group welcoming from the start, describing the environment as a great one on and off the field. She said she is eager to return to Perth, work hard and help the team to a good season.
A young player with big-stage experience
Kemp made her England T20I debut against South Africa aged 17 years and 95 days, and her ODI debut followed a few months later. The left-hander has also played franchise cricket in England, turning out for Southern Brave in the 2025 Women’s Hundred alongside Sophie Devine.
At the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup she contributed with the bat for England, including an unbeaten 44 from 28 balls in one appearance. In the ECB Women’s One-Day Cup she scored 149 runs across three innings.
Club delighted with the signing
Scorchers general manager Kade Harvey said the club was pleased to have Kemp back for another WBBL season. He called her a talented young player whose best cricket still lies ahead, adding that her finishing ability adds real value to the side.
Harvey also noted how quickly Kemp took to the team’s culture and environment last season. Her return gives Perth more depth in the batting order and international experience as they prepare for the 2026 campaign.
