Delhi Capitals bowling coach Munaf Patel has warned that his team can no longer afford complacency as they head into a must-win match against Chennai Super Kings.
Momentum and mindset
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Munaf said the “relax mode” was over and that Delhi now need to build momentum and win regularly to stay in the hunt for a playoff place. He stressed the need to move on from earlier results and keep a winning mindset.
He noted that confidence is linked to winning and cannot be built through defeats. The coaching staff can guide the players, he said, but execution is ultimately up to the individuals on the field.
Spin the key at home
Delhi have won only once at home this season. Munaf nevertheless expressed confidence in the spin attack, particularly as conditions are expected to suit slower bowlers, and backed the experienced pair of Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav to make a significant difference.
Chennai have their own issues
CSK have also had a difficult season away from home, losing three of their four matches there. The two sides are level on eight points from nine games, sitting sixth and seventh respectively, which adds to the importance of the match in the playoff race.
