Mumbai Indians have moved to calm speculation about Hardik Pandya’s future, saying they have not opened any discussions on player trades and that no decisions have been made ahead of IPL 2027.
Talk about a possible exit gathered pace once IPL 2026 ended, with reports linking the all-rounder to Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals. The five-time champions have now responded, insisting nothing has been settled.
Review comes first
A franchise official explained that the team is in the middle of a full post-season review covering every part of the set-up. Contrary to what has been reported, the official said, the club is not in conversations about trades, and any such talks can only begin once the review is finished. Several ideas and options are being weighed, the official added, and that takes time.
Further fuel for the rumours came from reports that Pandya had been separated from Mumbai Indians’ talent management operations. The club has stressed that this should not be read as confirmation of a trade or an exit.
Mixed years since his return
Pandya rejoined Mumbai from Gujarat Titans before the 2024 season and was named captain straight away, taking over from Rohit Sharma. Results since have been uneven: a disappointing 2024, a playoff place in 2025, and another campaign that fell short of expectations in 2026.
Like a number of other IPL sides, Mumbai are now examining their squad, leadership group, coaching staff and wider cricket strategy. Formal trade discussions are expected only after the review is complete and plans for the 2027 season have been finalised.
