Mehidy Hails Bangladesh’s First ODI Series Win Over Australia as a Massive Milestone

Mehidy Hails Bangladesh’s First ODI Series Win Over Australia as a Massive Milestone

Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz described his side’s first ever ODI series victory over Australia as a massive milestone for the country’s cricket, after the tourists took the three-match contest 2–1.

A historic series

Bangladesh opened with a win that ended a 21-year wait for a victory over the five-time world champions. They then secured the series by winning the second match through the DLS method. Australia avoided a clean sweep by taking the third ODI by a single wicket.

Mehidy said he was very satisfied with the overall display, adding that playing well against a team of Australia’s calibre is exactly the kind of outcome that makes captaincy rewarding. He noted that Bangladesh had never won a series against Australia before, and that before this tour the team had won only three of their previous 25 ODIs against them.

He said the greatest reward was the praise Bangladesh received from the Australian players themselves.

Shoriful stands out

Mehidy singled out the bowlers, and Shoriful Islam in particular. Shoriful was picked ahead of Nahid Rana and responded with a spell of 6 for 48. Mehidy said he bowled exceptionally well and proved himself in the key moments of the game.

The captain also welcomed the healthy competition for places within the squad, describing it as a positive sign for Bangladesh’s continued development as an ODI side.

The result gives Bangladesh a landmark achievement against one of the strongest teams in the format.
