Mumbai Indians have appointed Luke Williams as head coach for the 2027 Women’s Premier League. He takes over from Lisa Keightley, who was appointed in September 2025; the franchise has not given an official reason for her departure.
Williams said he was excited to join a respected and successful organisation and to work with a talented group of players and staff. He spoke of building something together, playing an exciting brand of cricket and competing for success.
Nita M. Ambani welcomed him, describing him as a proven winner with deep knowledge of the women’s game and a commitment to developing players.
Continuity under Harmanpreet
Mumbai Indians have won the WPL twice, in 2023 and 2025, both under captain Harmanpreet Kaur and during Charlotte Edwards’ time as head coach. Harmanpreet will stay on as captain for 2027. The WPL 2027 auction is scheduled for October 28 in Kochi.
Williams’ record
Williams led the Adelaide Strikers to back-to-back Women’s Big Bash League titles in 2022 and 2023, then moved to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who won the 2024 WPL under him. That gave him three consecutive franchise titles across the WBBL and WPL.
He was also an assistant coach in a title-winning Hundred set-up in 2023, and since 2025 has been an assistant coach with the England Women’s team.
As a player, Williams was a successful grade cricketer in Australia and won the Bradman Medal three times, in 2005/06, 2007/08 and 2009/10.
