Gary Kirsten has said Sri Lanka cannot rely on spin alone if they are to test a strong India side in the first Test. The former India head coach believes contributions are needed from every part of the team.
Adapting as the game unfolds
Both sides have a great deal of data on each other, so Kirsten feels decision-making in the moment and the ability to adjust during the match will matter. He said Sri Lanka have plans ready for different situations, but that those plans must change as play develops.
His message was that the team would like to bring all their skills into play, not just spin.
Every session counts
Kirsten also stressed the need for concentration across a two-Test series. He warned that a single session could shape the outcome, and said Sri Lanka must stay switched on throughout, especially at home, because one lapse could prove decisive in so short a series.
