Sri Lanka will be without four players for the second Test against West Indies: Pathum Nissanka, Lahiru Kumara, Vishwa Fernando and Ramesh Mendis.
The absentees
According to Cricbuzz, Nissanka developed wrist pain after the first Test. Scans showed he needs surgery, and the opener has flown to the United Kingdom for the operation.
Lahiru Kumara bowled one over in the first Test before leaving with a right hamstring problem, later diagnosed as a Grade 1 tear. Left-arm quick Vishwa Fernando is still recovering from pain in his lower back, trunk and hip that first appeared in the pre-series warm-up match; he has improved but is not fit for selection. Off-spinner Ramesh Mendis is out with a bacterial infection.
Trailing after a heavy loss
Sri Lanka go into the match 1-0 down after losing the opener by an innings and 217 runs. Captain Dhananjaya de Silva’s century helped them to 308 in the first innings, but West Indies replied with 626/9 declared, built on a record 401-run partnership between Amir Jangoo and Roston Chase.
Sri Lanka were then dismissed for 101 in their second innings. Kemar Roach took 4/51 and became only the fifth West Indies fast bowler to reach 300 Test wickets.
