Jay Shah Salutes Australia’s Seventh Women’s T20 World Cup Title

ICC Chairman Jay Shah has congratulated Australia on winning a record seventh Women’s T20 World Cup, while also praising England, the beaten finalists.

How the final was won

England made 150/4, with captain Nat Sciver-Brunt unbeaten on 58 from 53 balls and Freya Kemp adding a late 44 not out from 28. Australia chased the 151 target in 17.1 overs, finishing with 17 balls spare and an unbeaten tournament record.

Beth Mooney scored 64 from 49 balls and Phoebe Litchfield hit 48 from 35, and their stand decided the match.

Shah’s message

In a post on X, Shah congratulated Australia on another strong campaign and gave credit to England as fine runners-up who were champions in spirit.

He also said the tournament showed why women’s cricket is unmissable, citing power, passion and class from start to finish.

Records and presentation

Australia captain Sophie Molineux received the trophy from Shah at Lord’s, her first ICC title as captain.

Mooney won both Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament. She ended with 238 runs and scored a third successive fifty in a Women’s T20 World Cup final, having also made half-centuries in the 2020 and 2023 deciders.

The win extended Australia’s perfect finals record in the competition to seven wins from seven appearances, making them the most successful side in its history.
